For my situation, being a four door instead of a two door that doesn't apply. 
From what I did learn the inner door mechanism did change on the 1980 and up 
models. 

The 1978-79 Omni & Horizons were pretty odd anyway and had alot of 1970's style 
parts that weren't used on the 1980's models like a hard plastic steering 
wheel, a different grille & tail lights, instrument cluster, upper door panels, 
dashboard, fender mounted turn signal indicators, etc.

That was a consideration, but overall the white paint still looks amazingly 
good and the door is rust free (unlike most of the salvage yard ones). I figure 
sooner or later someone will see a 1978-79 in a yard that I can use the parts 
from. Plus the Omni doors are kind of a pain to change anyway since the hinges 
are welded on and who knows if they didn't change where those pieces lines up.
