Noirin,
Thank you, very much appreciated, should we have indicated interest
on the wiki or somewhere ?
Its quite probable that Dan only thought that 5 were coming and knew
all of them anyway ?

I'm delighted to see so many people interested in a new project, and
hope you guys have a really successful BOF! I've switched it back to
20:30 on Wednesday.
Dan, in future, please, please don't schedule your BOF without first
checking with the planners team for the event
([EMAIL PROTECTED], or [EMAIL PROTECTED]),
and letting us know you need to stick to the time given, if people are
coming in for just one day. I know you mailed us to say that you'd put
the BOF on the wiki - and flipped the "confirmed" bit - but scheduling
is a whole other ballgame =)
Cassie, thanks for mailing me - I'm the conference lead for the
upcoming conference in Amsterdam, and I really don't want to rain on
anyone's parade. That said, there's no way I can keep up with all the
lists we have at the ASF! So if there's anything you guys need, please
feel free to get in touch =)

So it looks like this was the change that did it:

and the change was made by Noirin who looks like someone who is
setting up
the bofs. Perhaps, if we ask Noirin very politely (added her to
the thread)
then she can help us get something rescheduled for Wednesday evening?
Noirin - sorry for the problems around this, I think people
planned their
flights and hotels around the unconfirmed date only because the
April 1st
switch happened a little to late for reservations. If there is any
way we
can get this back to Wed that would be fantastic. Thanks!

Us also,

hotel rooms,

conference subs for 3 people specifically to come to the

I havent added it all up, but I know the budgets blown and some
of those
coming need to be in other places on Thursday.
;(
Any chance of moving it back ?
Our interest is real, we are sending one of the developers who
cant come
to Amsterdam to the London Hackathon as
we want to embed Shindig inside Sakai (http://www.sakaiproject.org)
originally prompted by the OpenSocial announcement at the start
of the
year, work we have been doing to rewite sakai's portal based
interaction
(168) and commentary such as

http://mfeldstein.com/gadgets-instead-of-portlets/
http://mfeldstein.com/mashing-up-the-lms-the-google-way/
Just trying to say we don't want to sit at the back and observe
(we also
dont want to get in the way) :)

I'm a little startled here. I'm supposed to go there (sorry, didn't
check
the list for a while), and yesterday ordered 3 tickets to
apachecon 2008
for
the Wednesday, specifically for Shindig. Now today I see the
schedule
has
changed and Shindig has moved to Thursday 21:30-22:30.
Can anyone confirm that it has moved? I'm not sure my employer
will like
it
if I need to order another 1000 euros of tickets.....

Hey Shindig folks,
ApacheCon EU is a few weeks away, and, as discussed before on
the
list,
we're going to have a Shindig birds of a feather session.
I've flipped the confirmed bit to "yes," and selected the
time of
Wednesday,
April 9, 20:30 - 21:30, in Matterhorn 3 (as per
http://wiki.apache.org/apachecon/BirdsOfaFeatherEu08 )
I know Cassie Doll, John "Fargo" Hjelmstad, Chris Chabot and
I are
planning
to be there.
Is anyone else coming from shindig-dev? It would be great to
meet
in
person.
Not me. I still *might* go to Amsterdam for the Apachecon-us-2008
planning meeting Saturday after ApacheCON, but it looks very
unlikely as
of now.
In terms of an abstract for
http://www.eu.apachecon.com/eu2008/about/BOFs, I
am proposing we list:
Shindig is a new project in the Apache incubator that is
becoming
the
reference implementation for OpenSocial and gadgets
infrastructure.
This
project aims to make it easy for a new social website to
become a
"container" for OpenSocial applications, and is making rapid
progress.
Come
learn about the project's infrastructure, see a demo, and
find out
how
to
get involved. Q&A welcome.
I'd like to send in an abstract to planners-2008-
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
on
Monday
or Tuesday, so there is a week's notice.
I'm imagining the flow would go as follows:
Dan Peterson
-- Intro to OpenSocial/gadgets/Shindig
-- Brief project history
John "Fargo" Hjelmstad
-- Walk through the Java Gadget Server rendering process
Cassie Doll
-- Walk through the JavaScript sample container
-- Describe how to connect backends to the OpenSocial API
-- Demo
Chris Chabot
-- Walk through the PHP server design
Q&A
Any suggestions or improvements?
Typically BOFs are very dynamic, a short introduction and let
people
unknown to the -dev list "delurk" themselves and talk about what
they
are doing and what they are interested into/ willing to help.
Your plan is all right provided that the introductions are really
short,
in the 5 minutes or so. Technical stuff has never really
fitted into
any
BOF I've been into, unless it is about discussing design
decisions,
etc.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Sounds like the description above is fine. I'll mail the planners
tomorrow.
