My general preference is that trunk is volatile, and you branch the stable bits. I don't see a lot of value in worrying about the stability of trunk, or whether things have to be yanked. In all likelyhood, very little is going to be completely removed, it will more likely just need to be adapted as prototypes prove or disprove the feature.
