1 - I would say -1 on removing the discovery module

Some CMDBs do not actually know what services are really running and having a unified rule base and methods for determining advanced monitoring is a good thing IMHO.

In some environments things like GLPI are running but others not. The magic is having custom import modules, yes, but then being able to apply some discovery rules on them. Discovery is a good feature even for enterprise users.

2 - Skonf can wait for existing Nagios users. For new users not from the Nagios world, it is really a Good Thing, but Nconf with Thibault Cohen's work is now usable so that is an avenue we should exploit. Also, I realize that the discovery scripts can be used by themselves. At some point it becomes, what do the devs want to work on. Until a commercial entity or that someone in the community steps up to work on it, I will have to vote with the house on shelving skonf for now. Not removing, but waiting for it to be really developed (bug fixes, UI enhancements, integration with import modules, an API, installation validation, management UI for shinken-admin, etc)

3 - Couchdb and Merlin modules should be removed completely.

4 - Shinken trending should be shelved and the code moved to a separate branch.

5 - Shinken triggers should be converted to an easier to a documented and maintain method based on RPN (use trigger functions from the Shinken SNMP SnmpBooster module instead) and the Python triggers should be shelved until they can be better tested and documented.

6 - Shinken should drop/fold all documentation in the shinken/doc folder back into the wiki. Keep the man pages but move everything back to the wiki and provide a simple way to import the whole dokuwiki structure into a local wiki.

Overall, spend less time on WebUI and more time on making the solution bug free, maintainable and work as expected with the existing features.

Cheers,

F.

Hello,

From my point of view, I would say :

- discovery module from my point of view is useless. I prefer developping a module that imports configuration from an external database (or even a csv import) that "guessing" stuff. - custom install script. I would have prefered focusing on making packages for supported distro. - maybe skonf, because I think it can help only beginners. People who are coming from Nagios's world don't need it right away.

    Hi all,

I'm currently working on tagging feature for what is really
    important, and what is less.

I also would like to play a game that can help us to know how
every one is looking at current features too. So we will play a
funny game : If you got to delete a feature, which one will be the
    removed one?

I don't say that we will remove a feature if lot of people is
agree about it (but why not after all), but it can help us a lot
to see what is really important for the project, and what can be
    put aside from now.

    Ready? Kill a feature!

    Jean
