Well, a lot of the mods to Shoes at the moment are about making
confusing things (Namespace issues) less confusing, and getting rid
of fairly serious bugs people are running into. We've also been
discussing how to improve the manuals still further. All of these
things will help with teaching and motivating new programmers.
We've not reached a stable state for the start of the academic year,
alas, but I think that some more patience will pay off. It's not
like developers of Alice 3.0 are way ahead of schedule either;
getting this sort of thing right takes time.

Changing APIs are confusing for people, so more stability is
desirable, in my opinion, People can see there is activity, so they
can understand there is progress. I think _Why has kept up the
reputation that he established on RedHanded of really being 5 people
:-), and as I've made very little contribution to this myself
(because of various pressures), I can't fault him for this level of
progress, especially as this is multi-platform.

However, if you think shoes is stable enough now, then I'd say get
people using it, if only because the feedback will improve things
further if they can be patient enough for _Why to work his magic,
when they raise issues. If they can be sensible about ladders lying
around, wet plaster, and not using the bath because the tiling isn't
finished, then invite them in. Seeing the construction in progress
may appeal to some of them.
