I said I ignore the USGA, I didn't say or imply that I ignore the rules of golf. I follow the rules probably better than most duffers. My son in law is a PGA club pro and I honor all the rules and do not play any selective rules. Never have and never will. Up here in the winter, no one is allowed to post for handicap, so I would say it doesn't matter a lot if your glove has some material added to keep from losing the club.

I hope you do not plan to play in any USGA sanctioned events. The rules of golf are the rules. Do you play selective rules, ie. I do not like to play the ball as it lies, so I always move it, or the oput of bounds rule is unfair so I play it like a lateral hazard. You might not like the rules, but if you ignore them you are cheating. Golf is a game that relies on the integrity of the players. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of bob boone Sent: Thursday, August 08, 2002 1:28 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: ShopTalk: USGA Rules Against Clubmaker Online! John, Up here in the Seattle area, the glove would be the answer to our normal rounds played in dismal weather. I personally would not give a rat's ass whether it conformed or not if it meant I didn't have to carry about six gloves to complete a round!! Tuesday rain caught us on the 14th hole and I used a glove a hole from there to the finish. Have suspected the USGA is off base so much that I dropped my membership years ago and totally ignore them!! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, August 08, 2002 11:12 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: ShopTalk: USGA Rules Against Clubmaker Online! For immediate release: In what must rank up there with yesterday's COR ruling the USGA has ruled that my new glove does not conform with the Rules of Golf. The new grip (made of the same material) was conforming so all is not lost. The ruling that applied for the glove was: 14-3 Artifical Devices an dUnusual Equipment The player shall not use any artificial device or unusual equipment: C Which might assist him in gripping the club, except that: i. plain gloves may be worn. They continued: The glove is not considered to be "plain" because the material on the palm and gripping surface is not similarly smooth. Added material on the gripping surface of the hand, other than for wear resistance purposes, is prohibited. A "plain glove" shall not have features such as; ...material on the glove which adheres to material on the grip. Watch for an outpouring of public sentiment, newspaper articles, chat room indignation, and much more. When asked for comment, company owner John Muir replied, "It's simply not fair. I've ordered a ton of these from my supplier in China and now I'll have to cancel the order and start from scratch. I assumed from comments made on my discussion group, Shoptalk, that the gloves would be approved. I may sue the bastards" I may simply market the glove as a "foul weather" glove (and identify it as non conforming) as the glove/grip combination in the rain outperforms anything currently on the market and a guy playing in a downpour simply would like to finish the round without throwing his club with each swing. Besides the pathetic self promotion, I thought you'd be interested in a follow up on this as several of you sent me messages on this when I posted it earlier. The new grip will be available in about two weeks...I'll keep you posted. John shoptalk <http://clubmaker-online.com>
