Regarding grip tape discussion. One inch tape up one side and down the other side is the same as 2 inch tape wrapped around the shaft (which is faster). The best way to remove any grip (I have found) is to use compressed air in conjunction with a couple of squirts of MINERAL SPIRITS into the shaft through the vent hole in the grip! Can even remove most Winn grips. The tape stays behind on the shaft and there's no messy removal of tape from the inside of the grip. Lighter fluid is the same as naphtha. It stinks, it is a DANGEROUS fire hazard, it dries out the skin on your hands and for some people causes skin problems. If you want a good fire, use gasoline! I know of some club builders that do use gasoline!
As for water soluble grip I have found that the dry time is too long, grip removable a pain (especially if you don't know if this type of tape was used, if you use injection method -- no problem with air ). Last, splurge and buy a double stick tape dispenser if you plan on building more than a few clubs. With a dispenser you save time, don't waste tape and are sure to get the same measured length of tape each time (with the addition of a simple length guide added). Regripping a full set of clubs shouldn't take more than 20 minutes including grip and tape removal (which is Not required if you use compressed air to remove grips).
Thus ends my dissertation on grip tape. Delete NOW.
