Are the shafts parallel or tapered? The set I have been asked to change shafts in has Dynamic Gold S300 shafts, original from the factory. The customer wants them to be a total of 1" over standard length. The clubs are already 1/2" over standard. He thinks that 1/2" extensions would make them play "funky". I don't think so, but as a wise old clubmaker once said, "Give the customer what he wants."
Jim,
First off the shafts are taper tip. Secondly, if they are 1/2" overlength then the standard DG might have been butt trimmed that 1/2" less. From experience I know that when Titleist starts making 1" overlength clubs at the factory they use a special TT DG shaft. I went around and around with True Temper a few years ago when I was replacing a broken shaft for a teaching pro I work with. How can you tell the difference? By the stencil code TT uses on the butt end. It took four days of eMail to TT before someone there owned up to the fact that they have a proprietary shaft for Titleist if they are making longer clubs (it's a tad lighter to help with the swingweight) but TT will not sell to anyone outside of the OEM's, who buy in bulk. Of course you could take your chances and send them to Titleist.
