Methylene chloride is an excellent solvent for epoxy!
It will not dissolve cured epoxy!! Expensive stuff but it works great!

I had a bad mix of epoxy this weekend and had great trouble cleaning the

Could someone give me some ideas on what I could use to effectively
remove the 'mess' ?
If the epoxy was uncured when you "discovered" a "bad mix"
you clean it off with acetone. Acetone is "epoxy solvent". No other
solvent should be used. Denatured alcohol (laquer thinner) is second choice.
NEVER USE Goof Off or Goo Gone. Read the labels if you see "petroleum
distillates" (neither label indicates this, put some in water and see the
"oil slick") as an ingredient it will contaminate the surface and
cause a weak epoxy joint. Now did you clean the pieces with the forbidden
products?
Are you trying to clean off cured epoxy?
If so, tap the dried (cured) epoxy with a small hammer and lift the edge of the
blob with a sharp knife .....it should chip off in large pieces. Sometimes the
edge of a credit card will lift and chip off epoxy cured on a surface like a
graphite shaft (it's an iffy success operation).
