Thanks for the replies as there's some very good tips in there. For the
record, I've had trouble with both taking them out and putting them back
in.

I usually advise people that there's little point in re-shafting them
because of the time (and therefore cost) involved in the project and I
can make a new standard driver for the same price. However, in this case
it was a set given to him by his father and he wants to keep them
intact.

I suppose the screws could be Reed and Prince or Philips depending on
how old the heads are. I take Carls point that the screw heads being
ground down flush with the sole causes problems. In this particular wood
I'm assuming that they are Philips screws but the screwdriver doesn't
seem to get down into the head of the screw to get a good grip if you
know what I mean. I'm a great believer in using the right tool and hence
my questions. 

I have done a search on the web for Reed and Prince Screwdrivers with
little success. However, I was mainly trying to find out how they differ
from Philips and therefore whether or not these are Philips or not.
