I read most of the website but am a bit confused. None of the courses I play are available as a download. Therefore I would need to put in my own courses.
Be certain you're looking in the right place. The PDA course archive is apparently not the same as the one for the new unit. Take a look here: http://tinyurl.com/ae6ma
Can you explain the process?
It's not difficult, but probably a little too involved for a post to the ST list. Here's the short version: load a template (included w/ the unit), pick a name for the course you're playing, then, as you move from hole to hole, find targets (markers, sprinklers, green center/front/rear) and tell the unit to record the position.
The whole process is explained in detail in the manual.
How many courses can be stored on the visor. EG, there is a reference on the site that storage is based on the subscription level with a maximum of 10 courses.
Courses for PDAs (not their handheld unit) are downloaded to your computer, then uploaded to the PDA with a separate application (HotSync, free -- it's the basic desktop software that lets your computer talk to the PDA).
The course themselves are larger than I had expected -- about 25kB each. That's not big at all for a PC, but it's pretty big for a PDA, especially older ones with limited memory. I have about 3MB unused memory on my Visor Deluxe, so I can store about 100 courses. In practice, though, I keep only the 10-12 courses I'm most likely to play on any given day.
Can the courses be loaded on your pc for storage and transfer?
The courses you download will remain on your PC until you remove them.
Any other info would also be appreciated
Just be sure that you understand the different products (PDA add-on vs standalone unit) and what does and doesn't apply to each. In general, the stuff for PDA is cheaper to buy, easier to handle on your own PC, but not as fancy as the stuff for the standalone (no graphics, etc.).
