Could be handy.

dont know what you mean here.

This seems like a good idea for how to phase in implementation.

1) Add a 'group images' option for use with selections, allowing you to
select the key image (default, first in set). This should be available
during import and in the library.
2) Add a facility to perform operations on grouped images, eg. lighten,
darken, etc. - all the existing processing, but as a 'batch mode'
3) Add a 'process with external program' option as a way to allow use of
hugin / other software to combine images. This process with you being
able to replace the key image with your new processed image.

When shotwell supports multiple views of an image (as opposed to the
'you can only have one eduited version' method we have right now), this
could be extended to allow multiple processed images to be selected
between.
