My personal opinion is that lossless and lossy operation should be clearly separated, and that lossy operation should not be available in a photo *management* program, but in a photo *editing* software. So it should be made *absolutely* clear, if an operation *degrades* the image / is lossless, and a backup should be created. I would actually also suggest to put lossy operations into a sub-menu, or even have the possibility in the settings to *disable* lossy operations - the risk is to high, that one ends up accidentally with a degraded image.
