Has the dimming been fixed? - try running the ffalarms clock or manually
changing brightness - the dimmer subtracts something from the brightness
value and after a couple of iterations you have zero brightness - and
cant fix without a reboot so you can see the screen again :(

Also, in daylight (its peak summer here in Australia), the screen
disappears as once the dimmer cuts in, the screen isnt bright enough to
be seen (and starting at 80% brightness means it is only barely visible
in the shade anyway).

And try reading an ebook without disabling the dimmer :(

The new shr-today is only a little faster when I tried it, but seems
very flaky in that it often stops working and needs a reboot before it
will work again.

Do you have a clock, GSM and battery readings? - they were not present
when I tried and none of the suggested fixes worked?

Some of these problems are fixable (disable dimming altogether) in the
config files, so I am waiting for an updated version that addresses
these issues (prob after xmas I guess) - dimming is a good powersaving
feature when on a call, but too much of a problem elsewhere ... maybe
make it limited to calls only?
