There seems to be something odd about your installation. The serious problems 
you mention aren't happening on my shr-u install, and I'm sure we would have 
seen many more reports if they were widespread.

Did you upgrade using a new image (flash or tarball) or did you use opkg to 
upgrade the existing installation? If it was a new image it would be helpful 
to know exactly which one. If you used opkg did you accept the proposed 
configuration changes, or stick with the existing configs? There have been a 
number of instances where people have kept the existing configs which don't 
work with the new packages.
