Precedence: bulk HELP FOR EAST TIMORESE REFUGEES There is a human tragedy happening now in East Timor. Over one third of the population has been killed, many were tortured, and displaced. Many of them are women and children (whose men are missing). We cannot just stand still and do nothing about it. Some Indonesians in Melbourne are now organizing a Fund Raising Campaign for these refugees, especially those refugees who have been forced into camps in West Timor. The reasons we choose them are as follows: (1) The East Timorese refugees in East Timor will soon be helped by the International Peacekeeping Force and Red Cross, while those who are in West Timor face a highly uncertain fate. It is not clear yet whether the Indonesian government will allow international institutions to enter West Timor and provide necessary assistance. (2) We have contacted Yayasan Masyarakat Sejahtera (YASMARA) or the Prosperous Society Foundation based in Kupang, West Timor, to help us chanel the fund. We will pay attention to the family survival, particularly children and women who are in the camps at Kupang and Atambua, West Timor. We ask for your generous contribution.
