Hallo,
this mail is late, but I had problems with my house. It was raining outside and the
water was inside...:-((
After having some mail with Adrian Gschwend he asked me for leading this project (
??projectname ??) and I answered:
"I can do it, but I don't know whats approaching on me... I think it's better if there
is not only one person leading the project..."
If there is nobody against it I would try it...
If we want to start soon, there are some things to do:
1) Environment:
- there must be an entry for this project on netlabs.org --- Adrian answered he will
do it...
- everyone developing on this project must have an develop environment and access to
e.g. CVS...
2) Tools, compiler....
Because I think its not good to make developement twice, I asked an lazarus developer
if it's possible to use the code and the class
librarys under OS/2 or to run the IDE, I got the following answer:
>> Begin of mail <<
"FreePascal is already runnung on OS/2 and with it you've a good compiler and basic
class librarys. Development of
lazarus on OS/2 is not only possible, it's desirable. Because we use an abstraction
layer for grafical toolkit, there should
be no difficulties. In time we try to generate a native windows port.
But there is one hitch:
- the API is historical and not very well implemented
- essentially we tested it with the 'gtk-toolkit'
- a connection to the WPS is really not easy...
But:
it seams to exist an port of gtk for OS/2, and then it shoud run outofthebox"
>> End of mail <<
I think the answer of the developer is encouraging because there is the possibiliy to
use the whole development and the compiler of fpc
seams to by quite good. So we have to check:
- if we can use the classes of lazarus or if we want to start at point zero...
- if the (develop) environment is running on OS/2
- if the class-hierarchy is ok
- if the compiler is ok....
I hope everyone can read my ugly english and we can start soo...
