I think you're using the wrong unix pipe command. Try:

$ ./Eig2DOS < Si.EIG > Si.dos

Or you can try using the %ProjectedDensityOfStates block, which will give
you much more valuable information, in my opinion. See the manual for
details.

You may want to do some basic bash shell/unix pipe tutorials because your
questions in this thread have little to do with SIESTA and more to do with
proper shell command syntax. Look here for a beginner's introduction:
