Usman, since an AS is defined as “A collection of prefixes with a common routing policy”, what would you use one for if not to connect to other autonomous systems? If you are connecting to a single other autonomous system, then, arguably it is impossible for your prefixes to have a distinct routing policy and you are, therefore, part of that other AS. If you are connecting to multiple other autonomous systems, then, you are, by definition multihomed.
