if you dont want to run some *nix variant (linux, *bsd, commercial unix (??) or other things ive never heard of), then you might be stuck with win2k and demands for higher end hardware. i think my point is this: if you want good performance on economical hardware, dont use windows; what will work best will require reading, learning, and effort, and will probably entail something that tastes like *nix
