Two of the College Houses co-ops, Pearl St. Co-op (2000 Pearl St.) and
Taos Co-op (2612 Guadalupe) have Ethernet connections installed in half of
their rooms as part of trial program. If all goes well, the rest of the
rooms and the rest of the houses (21st St. Co-op, Laurel House, Opsis
Apts.) will be wired as well. College Houses is leasing T-1 lines from
Time Warner (one to each building) and using a company called Vario as the
ISP. The cost is somewhere between $15-20/month. I haven't yet heard
about the quality of the service. College Houses was in negotiations with
Waller Creek for a long time, but finally found that Vario was able to
provide a shorter contract period and better billing services. For more
info, people can contact the College Houses main office at 476-5678.
