I've never seen this problem with xfree, but I did witness it with
accelx when I put the resolution higher than what was allowed (or
maybe it was because I made the virtual desktop too big, this was a
few years ago so I'm not sure which).  Since it's only 5 pixels or so
this probably isn't the problem in your case, but it's a possibility.

If I were you I'd definitely fill out a bug report on this one.
