Go to the same place all the rest of these local outfits have to fool
with before they can offer you ADSL and that is SWBELL.NET......
This is not a plug, but I have a nice block of static IP numbers, they
could give a poot about what kind of business I am running out of my
bedroom and this usage is totally unmetered.....The speed never wavers
on my end and I am up 24x7.
The rate I pay for is 750kb/s into the house and 300++Kb out......What I
get is usually a lot higher than that....I have no reliable way to
measure it except to go 'Holy Shit" when the meter at the bottom of
netscape climbs past 185 KB/s........
The Bell people are slow, incompetent, almost recalcitrant to help in
ANY area outside their job description BUT they could also give a shit
what kind of operating sysyem I use. They gave me my block of numbers
before the tech arrived to install the splitter and the alcatel"modem"
and I used my own NIC and had the computers ready to go when he got
here. It was a full 30 seconds of waiting while he programmed the
alcatel and I was off to the races............
I LOVE ADSL and have it on good authority that it is going to get
FASTER in the next year or so.
Now If I could just keep my mail machine from locking up.......
Oh, yeah, all of the wonderful TECHNOLOGY costs me about $80.00 over my
normal phone bill....
