Just a comment here. A good number of years ago, probably spring or
fall of 91, we had an amiga festival at UT. (Yes, I have been at UT
for a looong time :) We didn't need to do installs because if you had
the hardware you had the software. But nonetheless, the experience
might prove helpful in planning this event.
First, we took over the lobby of the UGL (and maybe we even spilled
outside) and set up lot's of amiga machines of every shape and size.
Basically we all brought what we had and set them up with games,
applications, demos, and anything else that we thought would draw a
crowd. The amiga campus representative arranged to have a few
machines brought in too, as I recall. We even had one or two running
the amiga unix. (I think it one of the first SVR4 systems) The big hit
was the video toaster we brought in - everyone loved it. We had some
t-shirts and stickers and other things to give away. In fact, I think
we even had some amiga kites.
This was all done on a weekday and over the couple of hours we had
hundreds and hundreds of people stop and take a look. So, I highly
recommend considering a public place for the event. That way people
can stop and watch while the installs are going on. Add some machines
demoing interesting applications and mix in some free CD's, stickers,
etc... and you've get a lot of great publicity.
So, who wants to chip in and get the Tux costume? :)
