Hey Michael,
Just rerun your favorite X config tool and include all the resolutions
you want. Play with 'em till you find your favorite resolution, then edit
XF86Config so that your preferred resolution is the FIRST listed on each
color-depth line. X opens on the first listed res at a given color depth.
For example, I like 1024x768:
