Things seems to be complicated now. My Alcatel Speed Stream DSL modem is
USB, so I can't just plug it to my ethernet card...in fact, I don't even
need a network card now unless I want to hook it up to other computers in my
house. So my problem is getting Linux to recognize the DSL modem through USB
and use PPPoE...all this instead of DHCP. But I don't know anything about
newer DSL modems possibly having PPPoE routers built in...does anyone know
how I could find out if my modem has these routers?
Any why has Swbell stopped using DHCP? Or do they still use it, but now
I have to use PPPoE w/ the new modems? I think I'd rather get an older modem
that I can plug straight into an ethernet card...
