look in /etc/rc.d. these are your startup scripts

if you have /etc/rc.d/rc.local, then just throw commands in there (give 
full paths, i dont think environment vars are set yet)

if you only have other directories in /etc/rc.d (namely rc[0123456].d), 
then this is ultimate weirdness (i think its called SysV something). 
hack around with it a little. its not too complicated i dont think
