Magnus mailed me privately too, and it turns out that not using a USB 3 port makes it work for him. However, I still feel uneasy about that -- there may be a timing issue or something similar involved. Other people (and myself) have seen this before, but it's hard to pin down. It seems to depend quite a bit on the machine, so it makes sense that moving from a USB 3 port to a USB 2 port would make a difference; although I doubt the problem is USB 3 per se.
