Gerhard,
I agree it was not ideal and take your point. Unfortunately on this
occasion I couldn't just 'Reply All' which would have copied the text
using the facilities normally available in e-mail giving it the correct
attribution. Because the original text was in a separate e-mail thread I
seemed to have no option but to copy and paste the text to my reply to
the the new thread. The other option would have been to reply to the
previous thread instead of the new one and the reply may have been
missed. Not sure how to get around that? I was just trying to be helpful
by reminding the original sender of your previous request for
information. The best I could apparently do was to copy the entire text
exactly as it was written. It would naturally have been better to
somehow get an attributed copy into the new thread.

Stuart,
I believe Gerhard requested some information from you on that
matter. I expect he will reply to this at some point, but here is
the text of his e-mail in case you didn't see it earlier (from
06/06/2021):
Until you got a wiki account (don't know if the bot is currently
active which is involved in the account creation), or somebody
with an account and the information at hand will update the page,
you can do something even better.

John, this style of quoting is terrible. It totally lacks proper
attribution, and should never be done that way. Has caused severe
trouble in the past, is easy to get wrong and result in heated
fights when content is misattributed. You've seen that in the
first reply to that message of yours, just think what longer
threads would do.
While I appreciate your intention to help communicate a point,
please consider using proper attribution in the future. There is
a convention how to quote other people's text. (And yes I'm aware
that many users are not aware. Heck even many mail program
authors either don't know or don't care. I know that it need not
be your fault or intention, but nobody is forced to follow bad
practise either when there's proper procedure that is as easily
available.)
The message that you refer to was sent to the list, so it's in
subscribers' mailboxes, as well as in the archives at
https://sourceforge.net/p/sigrok/mailman/message/37297430/
virtually yours
