Most higher order thinking is rationalisation of decisions made by the hindbrain. Humans have to work really hard to overcome that and most fail. I would like to think that everything that I believe is open to change. Realistically, I suspect that beliefs that are controlled by my hindbrain (that is, beliefs that I tie to my identity) would be *very* difficult to change. I'm fairly intelligent and I'd probably come up with sophisticated rationalisation for rejecting even the most conclusive data. I just hope that my most deeply held beliefs are on the right side of history.
