So, there's this interesting phenomenon I've noticed in myself that could
be termed "intentionally restricting my exposure to something that I enjoy
for a variety of reasons". This is probably best explained by examples:

1. I enjoy the Money Stuff
<https://www.bloomberg.com/account/newsletters/money-stuff> newsletter by
Matt Levine. He's knowledgeable, lucid and amusing, which is a great
trifecta. However, I don't read all the editions (even though I'd probably
enjoy them) because it will lead to me acquiring knowledge on the capital
markets and legal system of the US (which is not of direct relevance to me)
and probably confuse me while dealing with the capital markets and legal
system of India (which IS of direct relevance to me)

2. I could probably train my ears to figure out whether a file is MP3 or
lossless (at least for MP3s below 256 kbps) but that is more a function of
being able to identify encoding artefacts than actual golden ears. I don't
see the point of learning something that will mess up my enjoyment of music
I have on MP3.

Is there a word for this? Do you have any interesting examples yourself?
