Nothing big ever happens on a year scale. If they manage to ship Cell with a developer kit in 2006, that would qualify for me. What would be modestly big? Spintronic CPUs and memories. Large OLED displays. Polymer photovoltaics too cheap to meter. We'd be lucky to have that on 10-20 year scale.
