In my case it was a horde of aunties carting carefully indexed "bound
volumes" (where I'd bound 10 to 12 related ACKs in single volumes) for
the delectation of their kids, my dear cousins, who I can still strangle
today for losing most of them (some parceled out to *their* friends, as
inevitably happens with lent books, others eventually went to waste
paper recyclers / raddiwalas etc). Damn, damn, damn.
BTW - if it came to a choice between ACK and that other staple of my
(and your, I guess) childhood, Enid Blyton with her far more overt
racism and brit superiority .. well, I'd pick both when the time comes
to buy books beyond "A for Apple" and "Mother Goose" for my daughter
