The image quality is very good; the lack of delay when you take a picture makes it much nicer than other digital cameras that I've used. I've had two problems with it - both minor:
- I had an occasional image quality problem that I didn't understand - a black shadow around the edges of some pictures. When I brought it to the store they laughed and pointed out that all of the problems were with flash pictures using the zoom lens with a hood on the lens. It you took the hood off - no problem.
- We had a media failure on a trip and it was impossible to get a replacement. Luckily my daughter dropped my other Nikon (a 3100) down a flight of concrete stairs and the media for this was compatible. :-). There was one other piece of media - but it had the pictures on it that are related to the core of my wife's thesis work & we decided not to use that media (we had CD backups and it was backed up on a computer - but the pictures were from Derge and it's a bit of trek to get there). Note to self: for next trip to Bhutan - bring *lots* of spare media.
The battery life is great. It's a little heavy - but it's a wonderful device. Highly recommended.

The D70s is a nice camera and I know at least four of my friends who
have the same. It also has a nice online tutorial that I really
appreciated. However, I should add that just four months after I
bought it I had a problem with the shutter and had to spend quite a
lot to get it repaired. Most of my friends have not come across a
similar problem, so this may be an exception rather than the rule.
apart from this glitch, I am quite happy with the D70s.
