and it would be pertinent at this juncture to mention that the Karnataka Govt has AGAIN deferred the rule on helmets. The Karnataka powers-that-be don't need helmets, they are only required when there are brains to protect.
I remember, eleven years ago, buying a moped for my daughter and on the way to the helmet shop an auto hit us and I had one of those comic-book lumps on my head for a while.
We must have a hail-fellow-helmet attitude....bad accidents and head injuries can occur at slow speeds too. A neighbour of mine on Convent Road is a neurosurgeon and I have seen his case records and photographs....

Now, now, don't tempt me...
I think riding skill makes a difference - but skill alone isn't enough.
There are often factors that can diminish skill - an emotionally
disturbed mind for example.
