in 2000 i was stopped while entering nairobi for carrying a 'day-of-dead

'day of the dead' but the mexican festival of holy communion....). the
tableau had a bunch of small clay skeletons climbing
out of coffins and partying at a dinner table (set -- unfortunately for me
-- in the style of the last supper...). the customs officer
immediately stopped me and i was detained and locked up in a room for 6
hours, all i was asked was : 'this is demonic...
are you practising witchcraft.....' [**]
I was detained briefly in Pochentong airport in Phnom Penh because I
was carrying my film inside a lead-lined bag. And once in Chennai when
I was carrying small, empty kerosene wick glass lanterns and spoke
Hindi to the obviously North Indian CISF officer manning the x-ray
station. And more times than I would care going into (Canadian
Immigration and Customs) and coming out (US Immigration and Customs)
of Canada. I never did figure out why I was subjected to extra
scrutiny in Canada.
