the other problem i see with these global meetings is the sort of
immediate negative impact it has in the place where its being held.

in the last month there was the World Environment Summit in nairobi -
just about 6,000 delegates - and there was total chaos in the city
because most of the people attending the summit were put up in hotels,
and were being ferried to and fro from the conference center.  The
traffic was a mess, the average guy suffered, and the environment was
worse off at the end of the summit.....

Now with the WSF in nairobi early next year (and 50,000 people) - i
dont know how the city or its infrastructure will cope....

it makes them think summits like this are generally a very bad idea.
Nowadays you have skype, you have the ability to have streaming video
conferences.....why can't people just have virtual summits ?
