Ages ago I started developng RSI from mouse use in my right hand. I diagnosed the problem as being a strain of my Lumbrical muscles. The Lumbricals are little muscles that enable you to keep your finger straight even as you bend the finger where it joins your palm. There are vastly more powerful muscles trying to curl your fingers into a "C" ot "U" shape - so the Lumbricals are vital. The first thing I did was to shift to left handed mouse use. While this was the obvious thing to do to rest the right hand - I now realise that it had an interesting side effect that I believe may not have been predicted by mouse designers. I now left click using the left middle finger, and that finger, being longer and being situated further to the left on the left hand, ensures that my left middle finger wraps right over the mouse almost up to its far end, well over the left mouse button. That means I can comfortably left click without using the lumbricals, by merely letting my muscles do what they do most naturally and powerfully - i.e bend at all joints. I am now a confirmed left handed mouse user, but need my right to draw. I prefer cordless optical rodents. shiv
