A good suggestion. Though some years ago I went to MBK center to buy a
phone and a pre-paid SIM card and it was a PITA to find someone who
knew enough English to answer my questions and make a sale. Be warned.
Any sales transaction that involves more than pointing and bargaining
numbers is complicated by a language barrier.
Write it down - in english is fine - on a piece of paper then.
Quite a few thais are far more comfortable with reading and writing english
while they may not be able to speak it well enough to communicate with
someone who has a different accent than theirs.
ps: caveat emptor applies rather strongly anywhere in bkk, but ESPECIALLY
in pantip plaza, which is their local equivalent of lamington road / nehru
place / ritchie street etc.
