Personally, I think going this far wide doesn't help in this case. The whole pink against grey/dirt thing is lost. If he'd gotten a little closer and had only a 180 deg pan (3-4 images at most), this photo would have been much better. But then, that's my opinion. And photography is pretty subjective and all that. (There, all escape clauses plugged in)
