one of my favourite books, calvino's _if on a winter's night a traveller..._ interleaves a story about two people who meet while browsing in a bookshop with snippets of tales they read.
the nytimes [1] has a nice essay on reading and romance, arguing that peoples tastes in books may say something about them. on the other hand: "[Author Ariel Levy's] partner, a green-building consultant, “doesn’t like to read,” Levy said. When she wants to talk about books, she goes to her book group. Compatibility in reading taste is a “luxury” and kind of irrelevant, Levy said.
