Apart from the culinary info, "Cook and See" (at least, the older edition
that I have) is also a lovely insight into the Tamizh society of just a few
decades ago...a lifestyle where everything was made at home from scratch,
numerous festivals were celebrated, there were no electrical gadgets to
help with food processing, and measures such as "ollocks" (such a delicious
word, makes me want to preface it with a 'b') which is actually "aazhaakku"
were used. That, and the fact that the book is definitely only meant to be
read by women!
