Divya, what you could do is to go to Malar hospital and ask to talk to the nurses and get some leads. Well...you probably have already done this, but your mother will have to put up with a full-time live-in help.The visiting sort are just NOT reliable enough, as you have found.
I just was reading this article in Harmony: http://www.harmonyindia.org/hportal/VirtualPageView.jsp?page_id=1157 but I notice it does not list a single organization in Chennai. Otherwise, you might have to go to Kerala to get one of the Kottayam nurses, or get a nursing attendant from one of the smaller hospitals. Not a great solution, but at least your mother will be able to cope. I too cared for a 84 year old father in law after he arrived back in Chennai post a debilitating stroke; he died 3 years later...and I do really know just what it involves. We were miraculously lucky to get an Oriya young man who was unemployed at the time...but still, the last few months (the young man went for his annual holiday and would not return for 3 months) were very tough. We were in Bangalore then and we approached an organization called "Medico Legal" or something like that and they did send someone over. Getting a woman to help out is that much more difficult....
