Really? I felt Penrose made things easy to get through thanks to his in-depth explanations. I read more than half of it over four days I was sick (and was thus bunking work during an internship a few years back). But I have to admit, with resumption of work, I never got around to finishing the neuroscience bits of the book. But then, I was more interested in the math and physics parts in any case.
A Brief History of Time by Hawking
I thought this was a breezy read when I was in school. Different strokes, I guess. I didn't quite like his next book, though (The Universe in a Nutshell, I think). It had too much mumbo-jumbo about time travel.
