A few ways -

1. Replacing white (milled and polished) rice with brown rice (or kerala
red rice). Or maybe parboiled rice (puzhungu arisi in tamil) which is
again unpolished.

2. Cutting down on whatever rice or wheat item (chapati, bread, rice)
and filling up the gap with vegetables. In fact wholegrain wheat
(bulgur / broken wheat / samba rava, rather than maida) instead of rice
should also help with fiber content.

3. Using less oil in vegetables when you make curries - don't deep fry,
stir fry in a teaspoonful of oil and use a nonstick

4. Less sugar in your coffee and one less coffee a day (or at least
drink it black if you like it better that way)

5. Substituting oatmeal and oatmeal based recipes might help too
