Oh, but it isn't speculative, to me at least. There's a certain amount of stress that is associated with having every minute of my day accounted for that is reduced by having some slack in the schedule. I think that is a definite immediate benefit of having an empty slot - or perhaps just being generous with the time estimates for doing things. Overscheduling my time means that I am constantly in execution mode rather than strategy or creative mode - NOT a good thing to me.
