   What a person could do is use a low frequency or no frequency to 
start that would give the high current needed then increase frequency

   You can pick up a real nice little EM field meter from Electronics
goldmine for about $13. It's a well built device costing around $100+
when sold. Has about 12 LED's that increase as the EM field gets 
stronger.
