Having spent a summer *many* years ago as an official Radio
Shack(tm) Geek(tm), I've always been verrrry sensitive to the
quality of service in these places. Yup! If you don't know much,
it's a case of the blind leading the blind. Most of these folks are
pretty short on technical knowledge. My gawd, if they really knew
anything about electronics they wouldn't be working in a Radio
Shack, would they?

The "fog trail" is the tindall (sp?) effect -- a good sign. That
yellow gold color is also pretty easy to get with the method you're
using. Sounds like you've already got it!

It's sometimes hard to see the streamers. You've got to get them
backlit or lit from the side just right so you can see them glowing
against a darker background. Also, if you've got your heat up high
enough to be boiling in the pot, you'll probably be stirring them up
so much it'll be hard to catch sight of them before they get swept
away. Try keeping the heat just *below* a simmer!

Instrumentation suggestion: Get ye to a grocery store and buy one of
them cheap glass encased candy thermometers. Should only be a
couple, three bucks. If yer gonna heat the water, ya might as well
know how high!

Great fun to hear you doing it! Never fear, silly questions are our
specialty! <GRIN>
