Mike , I have a solar fence electrifier for the geese when they are young to "free range" them. The one I have electifies 25 miles of fence at 600V it is a small one as I am only trying to discourage foxes, racoons, pack rats and so forth. Yes, they will give you a jolt without killing you. There are ways around being jolted and the most important thing is to have the ground connected to a metal ground 8" into the ground. I was happy to read this alright because now I have a way to make CS if the electricity goes out!!! I am careful to have the "hot wire" wound around plastic connectors because I was told that the goslings would probably die if they were zapped--they are quite small when I use this.
