If I saw my own father in a crowd a few hundred miles away from our
common haunts, where I least expected to see him, I would not be absolutely
sure it was him till we spoke.
Actually...I probably wouldn't even see him.
I think I know what he looks like too...but the truth is, his appearance
surprises me just a little bit, every time.
..and I do see him in a crowd now and then, till other cues tell me I'm wrong.
Like most people, I have an associative memory that paints crystal clear
photographs in my head every time enough associations pop up.
"Photographic" memory. Too bad we can't all make a printout for recall
comparisons. I suppose a good artist could. That would be an interesting
experiment to try over the course of a few years.
Did the dog have pale eyes and speckled paws too? [ just kidding ]
